Job Description

This role is to be a member of Synlogic’s Corporate Development team, which drives the strategy, business development, and new product planning for the company. This individual will have responsibility for evaluating internal and external growth opportunities for Synlogic, supporting commercial planning for current programs, assessing new product opportunities, and building the business case for investments. The Director will report to the Vice President of Corporate Development.


  • Drive market analysis, competitive intelligence, and financial modeling for internal pipeline programs and external assets.
  • Identify and assess growth opportunities, leading cross-functional search, evaluation, and diligence teams to recommend new technologies, programs, and indications.
  • Assess new program and indication opportunities based on clinical need and value proposition, mechanism, preclinical data, manufacturing, regulatory strategy, clinical development path, intellectual property and commercial potential.
  • Work effectively with scientific, clinical, commercial, legal, and finance teams to make business development proposals to senior management.
  • Participate in corporate strategy planning and drive supporting analytics for investment trade-off decisions required for corporate growth.
  • Prepare and maintain presentations (including financial/deal analyses, corporate or program presentations, board materials, opportunity assessments, etc.)

  • Dynamic builder of business cases leveraging strong scientific or medical skills to evaluate new investment opportunities.
  • Strength leading cross functional teams to prioritize and build business cases for new platform or program opportunities, while also being able to execute independently.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills who with track record of making successful recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Strong analytical skills required to provide sound inputs into scientific, clinical, and commercial evaluations. Excel-based revenue or valuation modeling experience.
  • 6+ years in Biotechnology/pharmaceutical required.


  • PhD, MD, or MBA required
  • Life science strategy consulting, business development, or venture capital experience a plus.
